Coming Out From Behind My Cuppa

Some people just ooze talent. People like the amazing Sonya Sones. Not only does this amazing author of novels-in-verse capture teens with her extraordinary storytelling, but she captures people in photographs like no other. You can see some of her favorites HERE.

I've visited other author's websites and noticed their great photos, and often underneath I've seen, "Photo by Sonya Sones." And every time I've seen such a photo, I've always thought, Oh how I'd love to have Sonya take my photo.

Guess what?

She did. *squeeee*

She sent them to me last night.

Getting these special Sonya photos, paired with something learned at the conference, I'm thinking it's time to come out from behind my big white mug. What do you think?

During the conference, Team Blog's very own leader, the lovely Alice Pope, presented a session called Moving Your Career Forward with Social Networking and Blogging with social media guru, Greg Pincus. Now, while I was unable to attend that session, I did follow the tweets and read the blog post, and one point they made stood out to me. Here's the hot tip link. They mentioned how many people at the conference recognized them from their photos (featured on their blogs, Facebook, and Twitter) and said it's good to use the same photo across all platforms.

Of course this got me thinking. Because who could ever recognize me, unless I walked around with a big white mug in front of my face? (Although it has been fun when people have recognized the name Jolie and then asked, "Hey, are you Cuppa?" That gets me every time.)

So, you tell me. Time to change my photo to one of these by the fab Sonya Sones? And if yes, then which photo?

I also wanted to mention that those people who signed up for the Pro Track during the summer conference were also photographed by Sonya (that alone is worth the extra cost). Just one more reason to keep dropping those coins into your SCBWI 2011 jar. Anyone get their photo taken as part of the Pro Track during the conference? I would love to hear about it.

I vote for photo #3. They are all lovely, so it was hard to decide. Good job to the both of you!

What a great set of photos.

They're all good, and each has something different going for it, but I think #4 is dynamic in a way that captures some of your personality as well as your appearance.

Ooh, I LOVE #2. You look stunning! All of them are lovely, but there is something very authentic and wonderful about #2. Love it! (But no matter which one you pick, you can't lose!) : )

All nice but I definitely like #2 the best. I've been looking at senior photographers this week so I'm getting to be an expert! (high school senior, that is)

Lucky you! Love Sonya Sones, especially STOP PRETENDING. Casting my vote for pic #3 but, honestly, I don't see how you could go wrong. They're all lovely. - Stasia

Great pictures! Of course, I can't imagine you would look bad in any photo. I like #3 and #4 best.

Sonya - Thank you so much for stopping by and weighing in! I'm trying not to act all giddy, as if a star is visiting my home, but eeee, that's sort of the case. :)

And, thank you, everyone, for all your thoughts. Photos 2 & 3 have been neck and neck online and offline. It seems appropriate that the photographer makes the call.

Thank you, Sonya!

#2 it is!

It's funny, I recognized a few people from their online photos at the conference and as a result was inspired to change my blog picture too.

I vote for #2 or #4. Great pictures!

They're all beautiful! I love how you've redesigned your blog. I was probably one of the geeks who came up last year and asked if you were Cuppa. And commented that Alice wasn't purple :)

NO, NO, NO! It never works when a known "brand" changes it's logo!! Many of us LOVE the bright eyes behind the mug! Pics are wonderful, but keep the logo!

Thanks, Kjersten and Sherrie.

And, Sherrie, you're never a geek. I think it's fun being recognized as Cuppa. :)

Anonymous - So mysterious like my Cuppa photo. I don't want to lose my big white mug photo either. I actually tried to put it in the header, but it only wanted to be ginormous. But hopefully, perhaps with a little help from my friends, the Cuppa photo will remain. That's the plan, anyway.

I'm chiming in late, but I vote #2 as well! They're all great, though. And it's true: I've definitely recognized blog friends because of their photos.

A friend at the conference was very pleased with the Pro Track photo experience. I followed the link and wow, Sonya's photos are awesome.
