The 2010 December La La: State Your Goals

I don't know about you, but December can give me a serious case of the Fa la la la las!

Anybody else? Or perhaps you just don't know what I'm talking about?

Two years ago I had to do something to keep myself writing and pushing through in December. (You can check out my 2008 post here.) And, each year, I feel the same. I want to end December proudly beating my drum. Pa rum pa pum pum.

This year's no different. As I said yesterday, I want to serve up a major helping of productivity with a nice side of outside accountability this month. If that's something you desire too then lets help each other get through the December la las.

What's that mean? Well, what do you realistic want and need to accomplish this month? State it in the comments and together we'll help each other through by checking in and cheering each other on. The more the merrier.

Here are mine, as I also posted on my blog:
* Every weekday at 10 a.m. I will be working on my YA novel. Actual writing, no research, no brainless switching sentences and words around or other busy but useless work.
* Every weekday at 2:30 p.m. I will be practicing piano. My solo gig in August doesn't seem that far away anymore.
* In Tae Kwon Do, I have a midterm coming up in less than a week and a national tournament in 6 1/2 weeks and I have specific training plans I've drawn up that I will stick to.
* I will stick to my (more reasonable, less ambitious) house cleaning plan.

Yat-Yee, I love your focus (and your last goals)!

It can't be just you, me, and Martha though!

Hopefully more December ambition is out there. :)

Suppose I'd better post my own goal!

I plan to have a word count goal of 500 to 1000 words five days a week until my WIP is ready for revision (which will probably happen before the end of the month). Then I will (again five days a week)revise the heck out of it. Better get to it!

Well, I need to do some revising on a novel I thought was done. You probably know what I mean. I have to redo some plot points. I want to get this done before the end of the month.

Oh, Michele, you must know of my plot-problems past. :) Glad you're joining in!

I'm going to shoot for 500-2,000 word range per day. Had luck with that in November, so why stop now? Thanks, Jolie, for egg-nogging me on!

Yay, Amy! Egg-nogging. Ha! :)
I like the range thing. That's what I'm doing this time, too. I had a more ambition daily word count in October, but there were days I stuggled to get all the way to that number, which made 1)frustrated 2)fell like if I didn't make it, it was a failed day, which was so not the case.

And since I haven't quite made that modest goal today, better get crackin'!

Thanks Jolie for doing this. I've had a difficult time staying focused lately, so this is just what I need. Besides, I want to be ready for the Great Critique too. My goals are like yours. I'd like to shoot for 500-1000 words 5 days a week. If I exceed that great, but it I stay on track and meet that goal, all the better. I'm shooting for consistency. Let's do this.

You're so very welcome, Debbie. I actually do it quite selfishly. I truly need my feet held to that yule log. :)

Love this idea, and boy could I use the accountability. I'm working on a book proposal and would LOVE to have a rough draft (complete with sample chapters!) by the end of the year. My idea is timely and I'll only be shooting myself in the foot by not moving on it, but there are soooo many distractions! I'm in.

Finish edits on the the 5th draft of the last three chapters of my WIP. Print it all out (with comments from my beta reader), put in a binder, and start what I hope will be the final round of edits before serious querying. =)

Yay, Deb and Laura. More feet for the flames. Love it.

Well, I think I saw this post yesterday. Or maybe earlier today. No idea, since December has so far been a blur. As I recall, my reaction was, "No thanks to even MORE accountability." But here I am having just now started a blog post about my end-of-year goals — and quickly remembered where I probably got the idea.

So. I am in.

Down to 2 chapters. If only all of this other life nonsense would stop getting in my way. =)

One of my cps decided that we need to finish our wips this month. I've got about 25-30K to go. Yikes! But I'm going to try, despite the fact that we're putting our house up for sale and that pesky holiday around the corner...

Lisa - So glad you're joining in!

Sherrie - My! That is a LOT going. All the more reason to join in the push. :)
