What's Up!?!

So, I realize Cuppa Jolie has been a bit quiet of late. I've mostly been sticking to my Monday Moments, with some SCBWI Team Blog thrown in.

Not much at all about my writing.

I'm here to confess, I've felt pretty private about it all as of late. Maybe because I'm in a fairly tender part of the process. Stuffs been happening, good stuff. But work has needed to be done and it all hasn't been moving particularly fast.

Which is fine. I'm not complaining. It's just the way it is.

But I am in a bit of new phase, at least with a couple of projects. I have a rough draft that needs to be finished and I have a new project that snuck up on me and is begging me to write it.

Dilemma: I don't want to ignore Project One (I promise I won't) but I'm also committing to this new idea, at least committing to get my initial thoughts and a bit of trial writing down.

Work for me now means fast fingers. Always moving forward. Those of you who have known me for a while know I love the outside accountability. Love it! Need it! Want it!

Anyone else currently concerned with word count?

I may be sending out word count challenges in the days ahead. Wanna play?

Wheee!!!

I'm just trying to find the drive to finish my ending re-write. I know it's here somewhere. Good luck with word counts! :-)

Sounds like we are in the same boat. There are changes I want to make to an older project but first I need to finish writing my current WIP. I'm at 60k and hoping to keep it under 80k, so almost there!
And I def understand the keeping things semi-private. Follow your instincts. ;)

Ooh, I wonder if we are secret writer soul twins? I am having some parallel experiences. I also have a revision to do. But I skipped NaNoWriMo in order to get ms 1 ready for submission... Meanwhile, I started something new, and I wanted to make February my own personal NaNo month... Both projects need my attention, but--if you are playing, I'm in!

I'm doing double duty right now, too. Trying to rewrite the ending on one story and delving into a new one at the same time, to the tune of 10 pages each week. Yikes!

I'm a mg/ya writer trying to get more into the "blogosphere" ever since my two young boys have gotten older (2 and 5) and I've really been enjoying your blog's Monday Moments, so thank you!

I am desperately trying to finish my third WIP and would love a word count challenge!

Thanks again.

Ah...this is why I love the blogosphere. It makes this lonely business so NOT lonely. Look at how many of us are dealing with similar struggles and challenges.

So, here the deal. I've done this before and it has helped me in huge ways.

I'll do a brief blog post about my goals today. If you need to get something done today, put it in the comments and we'll cheer each other on. There's nothing like a cheering section and someone holding you accountable. Whee!

Nicole - thank you so much. I'm so glad your liking the Monday Moments. And, hey...your boys are soooo close to the magic ages of preschool and kindergarten, that's when it all starts to change. :)

Stay tuned. A blog post up very soon.

a wiser man than i once told me, "a man with two projects has no projects."

stay focused and inspired. dig up an old song or two that may have inspired you in your early writing. get out a journal and re-read the entries from particularly motivated days. or, if you have this trigger at hand, find a scent that brings you back to a part of your life that means something special to you and use that to power you forward.

drive through the main goal! an hour of motivated work can make such a huge difference and start an avalanche of production.

ACK! My day just derailed, friends.

Power cord melt down equals not able to do much work. Back charging now, but other fires must be attended to.

That said, look for a bloggy challenge tomorrow, but stay after your own goals today. I hope you blow 'em out of the water. :)

Patrick - Interesting. I have been a bit torn (mostly about wheter I should give any attention to another idea), but am still totally inspired my WIP and certainly won't let it go. I heart it.

Jolie, I just love the way you put a positive twist on things. I tend to be a bit more gloomy. It's nice to be reminded of other ways to approach this madness. :) Word count? Do you mean for a finished project? Or do you mean how much I get done in a day?
I know the challenge of all those tempting new projects to start. I know some writers can handle more than one wip. I know others that need to stay focused on one.

Thanks, Michele. (I was talking about word count to finish a rough.)
